Yacht Party

Exposing the California Republican Party's priorities: While thousands of teachers are getting pink slips, the Republicans are supporting an appalling tax loophole for yacht purchases. That's why the Courage Campaign is calling the Republicans the "Yacht Party".

That ad is terrible. People who don't know the issue are going to have no idea why they are thanking the Republicans.

And the issue is mostly true. The loophole already exists. Closing it would qualify as "raising taxes". In California, the majority party can't raise taxes without at least 7 votes from the minority party.

I had to read the accompanying comment to make any sense out of it. I think once you know what it's about it's sorta funny.

I guess there is a school of marketing that swears by the idea you never have to explain anything. I don't really agree.

There may be some truth to not explaining "everything", but I think you have to give enough to make an undecided person click the link.

This may sound stupid, but those people don't look like Republicans. I went to school with the yacht class, heck, I partied on their yachts, and they're not African-American and they don't look like models. Frankly, they're better looking, and they're generally white. The ad looks like an ad for champagne.

Maybe they're just uglier on the other coast?

Republicans, I mean.
